Planning a wedding with two or more faiths can be difficult! However, it’s important to have conversations about incorporating multiple traditions into your special day. Here are a few tips to consider if you’re planning an interfaith wedding.
Remember what the day is really about
No matter what religion you practice, your wedding day is about love. While conversations regarding religion and traditions can be difficult, it’s important to keep in mind why you’re gathered on this very day. Spread the love!
It’s important to understand why religion is a part of your partners’ life. Gather information about your religion as well as your partners before making any major decisions about your wedding. This will give you a greater understanding of your partner, their family and traditions, and the world as a whole.
Talk to your parents
Parents have expectations too. It's important not to blindside them during the ceremony, and instead have honest conversations before making any major wedding decisions. Be patient with your parents…they care and that’s why we love them!
Find the right officiant
Choose officiant(s) that understand both of your religions, and understand you and your partner as a couple. Interfaith wedding are becoming more and more popular so don’t be afraid to ask your friends for recommendations or look for officiant reviews online!
Acknowledge Each Faith
One way or another, it’s important to acknowledge each faith. Whether it be two separate ceremonies or one fusion ceremony, it’s important to take great care in planning how you are going to intertwine each religion into your special day. All ceremonies are different! Make personalizing yours a priority.
